New Zealand International Film Festival

The New Zealand International Film Festival arrives in Auckland on 19 July 2012 until the 8 August and it’s going to be big!

 

If you Purchase your tickets before 19 July to take advantage of their early bird prices.

But the biggest issue is choosing what to watch so we have put together a few picks for you to get you thinking and get you hooked on the festival!

1. Cabin in the Woods – Joss Whedon, the man who brought us not only the blockbuster Avengers but  fan favourites Firefly and Buffy The Vampire Slayer has produced and written another cult favourite.  Not your average teen horror flick, Cabin in the Woods has got the sufficient buzz to make this a must see for all horror fans! (and Chris ‘Thor’ Hemsworth is in it too!)

2. Marley – This eagerly anticipated documentary on the great Bob Marley brings us insider views on this relatively mysterious man. The movie is directed  by The Last King of Scotland’s Kevin Macdonald and features: Bob Marley, Rita Marley, Neville ‘Bunny Wailer’ Livingston, Chris Blackwell, Cindy Breakspeare, Cedella Marley, Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. – read our review of the film here.

3. The Hunt – A return to form for its director Thomas Vinterberg , this unsettling drama centres around Lucas a teacher temporarily working as a kindergarten assistant whose world is turned upside down when an accusation is made against him by a child. Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen won the  Best Actor Award at Cannes 2012 for his portrayal of Lucus so be confident that you will see a world class performance.

4. The Angels’ Share – Ken Loach returns with this Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival 2012 winner! A colourful comedy with equally colourful language sees new dad Robbie determined to turn over a new leaf.  He and his friends when on the same community payback group visit a whisky distillery,  a vision of  new life becomes apparent.

5. Pictures of Susan – See the World premier of the story of Auckland ‘outsider artist’ Susan King  who stopped talking in 1955 aged four and instead expressed herself through her art. Director Dan Salmon tells her story in this Kiwi Documentary.
