Keeping Up With NZ ‘The Griddy’s’ Comedy Awards Winners 2012 at Edinburgh Festival!
The ticker tape settled on the stages of this years New Zealand International Comedy Festival in May with the climax of the announcements of the Billy T and Fred Comedy Awards at Last Laughs.
After watching 26 shows we enjoyed the festival so much we wanted to find a way to celebrate our favourite shows. Let’s have our own awards!
From the middle of the Festival we began selecting our favourtie shows to put together a shortlist for ‘The Griddy’s’which you can see in full here.
The decisions made gave us the very first Griddy award winners!
And the winners are …………………………………………………………………………..
It was incredibly difficult to choose winners out of so many fantastic shows but the one’s that we have picked are both truly original shows that are part of making live comedy the exciting and evolving art form it is!
The Boy With Tape On His Face – More Tape – The Griddy’s Best New Zealand Act 2012
‘I am certain in the hands of this muted mastermind that every show will end as this one did, with a standing ovation!’

Also thanks to ‘the Boy’ who helped with the naming of these awards!
Marcel Lucont – Gallic Symbol – The Griddy’s Best International Act 2012
‘He really is a pleasure to watch as he cleverly plays his quirky observations in his refreshing style of such obvious disdain that he will have you in fits of giggles.’
Read out full review of Gallic Synbol here.
Both these hugely successful international acts are at the biggest arts festival in the world, The Edinburgh Fringe. In a month of comedy madness the Edinburgh Fringe will feature a huge amount of acts so here’s two we are happy to recommend!
