The Breath Of The Volcano – Auckland Arts Festival

Last night saw the world premiere of The Breath Of The Volcano. This is the latest work from Group F,  a French team of pyrotechnic experts who build phenomenal light and fire events around the world. In 2007 they enthralled 100,000 Auckland Festival goers and now they are back with a show just for us.

Set in the grounds of Auckland Domain and using the Auckland Museum as their backdrop, this amazing shows brings music, projections, fireworks, fire blasts and fire suits to create a truly wonderful spectacle of epic proportions. Taking inspiration for the volcanic hills of Auckland, as well as the wondrous New Zealand landscape, this show draws on many symbols of land, sea and air.

The show features many fun surprises that I won’t spoil for you here but I can say that I did actually gasp as well as ohh and ahh. The projections on the back of the museum where just brilliantly done and perfectly executed fire blasts choreographed to music were wonderfully impressive.

They have lit up the Eiffel Tower, The London Eye and the Palace of Versailles and taken part in momentous celebrations around the globe, from the Barcelona Olympics to the opening of the world’s tallest tower, Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Now they have lit up the Auckland Domain to create a magical multimedia light and fire show that really will leave you breathless, which is hard work considering how many people you are going to tell about it!

Catch this show at the Auckland Domain until 9 March as part of the Auckland Arts Festival
