The Magnets – Auckland Arts Festival

Uber talented British vocal group The Magnets performed their opening night in Auckland’s Festival Club!

This six man group covered songs from many genres but their real trick is that they perform them all a capella, playing all the music with their voices alone. Take some beat-boxing, harmonies and a hell of a lot of charm and you get The Magnets!

From Adele to ACDC they sang one hit after another and were always pitch perfect as Nicolas Doodson, Michael Welton, James Fortune, Andy Frost, Stephen Trowell and Fraser Collins entertained for over an hour.

Mostly led by their musical director Stephen Trowell they harmonise beautifully and have a brilliant human base in the voice of Fraser Collins.

One of the many highlights was beatboxer  Andy’s solo, when he performed the beat, drums and singing all at the same time. This is a see it to believe moment and really needs to be experienced in person.

This is a slick and professional show but don’t think you will just be sitting back and listening as you will be sure to start foot tapping, clapping and singing along in no time.

These guys know how to please an audience and they have more than a few tricks up their sleeves, including a few Kiwi classics (Dave Dobbyn anyone?).

The Magnets show is a great addition to the Auckland Arts Festival and a great way to start your weekend.

Expect to sing along and laugh along in equal measure as these guys are 100% entertainment.

The Magnets will continue to perform at the Festival Club until 23 March as part of Auckland Arts Festival.
