Documentary Edge Awards
The Documentary Edge Awards took place last night at AUT’s Paul Reeve’s Building and Kiwi director Monica De Alwis was the big winner for her documentary feature debut Pretty Brutal.
Other New Zealand success came with director Robyn Paterson who earned the Best NZ Emerging Filmmaker for her film Finding Mercy. Kathleen Mantel’s documentary The Green Chain follows the work of Joe Harawira and picked up the Best NZ Short Documentary.
De Alwis picked up Best NZ Feature Documentary, Best NZ Director, Best NZ Editing and Best NZ Cinematography.
Another big winner was Kim Longinotto a UK filmmaker whose fragility of her documentary Salma earned her both Best International Director and Best International Feature Film.
Ally Derks collected the inaugural Documentary Edge International Super Hero award. She is cited as one of the Documentary Edge Festival’s biggest influences. Her participation this year charted another milestone in the international significance the Documentary Edge Festival across the world.
