NZ International Comedy Festival Picks – Week 2

Phew that was a mental first week of NZ International comedy Festival! So time to start planning week two. To help you chose what to see we have a picked out a few of our personal favs!

Gordon Southern returns to the festival with The Kerfuffle.  Nominated for Best International Act in 2012 he’s bound to bring on the laughs for 2013 too. Check him out at The Classic Mon 6 – Sat 11 May, 7:15pm.

 

 

Kiwi favourite Dai Henwood asks us to Adapt Or Dai. This show is bound to be popular to get in quick for tickets. On at Q Theatre Tue 7 – Sat 11 May at 7pm.

 

 

The wonderful Tom Gleeson will provide an hour of guaranteed laughs. A must see at this years festival! See him at The Classic Mon 6 – Sat 11 May at 7pm.

 

 

One of our favourite comedians so far at the festival is Elis James. For some top notch anecdotal comedy see him at The Classic Studio Mon 6 – Sat 11 May at 8:45pm.

 

 

The only comic to represent women at this years Comedy Gala is a must see in 2013. Urzila Carlson’s The Long Flight To Freedom is completely sold out in Auckland, but you can still see her as host of Le Comique, Sunday 12 May at SKYCITY Theatre.

 

 

Following supporting The Flight of the Conchords on their tour, Arj Barker is back in NZ with his show Go Time. He says “what audiences expect from me, AND the last thing they expect from me, which if my calculations are correct, will make for a great show!” Get in quick for this hot ticket at SKYCITY Theatre Thu 9 – Sat 11 May, 8pm.

 

 

Always a great way to stay on top of the up and coming talent the, Raw Comedy Quest offers a new act $2000 prize money and the start  of a new career in comedy. The grand final is at Q Theatre 12 May at 7pm.

 

 

The brilliant Steve Hughes continues his run at Q Theatre with his show Big Issues which we awarded a 5 Star review to. Have some very adult laughs Wed 8 – Sat 11 May, 10pm at the Loft @ Q Theatre.

 

 

If you really want your moneys worth get to this years The Big Show with host Mickey D (AUS) and featuring the very best of British stand-up comedy at this year’s Festival including; Stuart Goldsmith, Andrew Bird, James Acaster and Markus Birdman. On at the Comedy Chamber Mon 6 May – Sat 11 May, Mon 13 – Sat 18 May at 8:45pm.
