Show Me Shorts

Show Me Shorts is New Zealand’s annual national film festival showcasing the best new short films from New Zealand and around the world.

The eighth annual Show Me Shorts Film Festival will start on the 6 November 2013 in Auckland at the Capital Cinema and will then run in cinemas all across New Zealand.

2013’s festival has the added bonus of being able to offer significant cash prizes for award winners.

The winner of The Best Film Award, now to be sponsored by Rush Munro’s ice cream, will receive a $2,500 prize.

The other awards with new cash prizes include $1,500 for Mexicali Fresh Best Student Film Award, $1,500 for NZFC Special Jury Prize Award and $1,500 for the inaugural RPM Pictures Best Colourist Award.

Festival Director Gina Dellabarca says,

“Award sponsorship was not as tough to get this year, since the announcement of our Academy Awards® accreditation. It’s something businesses want to be associated with, and our festival partners are really happy to be able to reward world-class excellence in short-film making. For the filmmakers, this is great news because cash is king. It’s going to be a great festival this November. We have a lot to celebrate.”

Dispite this success with sponsors Show Me Shorts is still short of funds . The charitable trust is trying to raise prize money for one final cash prize. The ‘Show Short-Film Makers the Love’ campaign aims to raise $10,000. Half of this will become a cash prize for the winner of a new People’s Choice award, and the remainder after fees and reward costs are deducted will be used to help deliver the festival, opening night and education programmes.

The festival needs to reach their $10,000 target by the end of September – so get involved and make a pledge now.

If you want to book to go to Show Me Shorts Festival tickets are available from participating cinemas. For further information, please visit the website.
