Next Big Things Review
The rising stars of New Zealand comedy delivered a superb evening of music, magic and brilliant humour at Next Big Things.
The show was an opportunity to see 10 of the freshest comedians at this year’s festival, all of whom will also be doing their own solo shows at the Cellar at Q.
Presented by the polished, and always likeable Ben Hurley, each comedian had their very own unique style.
Louise Beuvink kicked off the line-up and delivered edgy laughs to a crowd keen to enjoy the show.
David Correos and Paul Amos raised the energy and sound levels, while Sam Smith and The Fan Brigade entertained with their musical talents.
Each of the comedians were handpicked for the show by Ben Hurley, who received his fair share of laughs and built a great rapport with the audience. It was brilliant to see a more even balance of male and female comedians displaying their talents.
Logan Kitney wowed us with his magical genius, while Kate Han gave some fresh and hilarious insights into the difficulties migrants face.
However, my favourites of the evening had to be Will Wood and Paul Douglas. They both had fantastic stage presence and delivered the laughs with the confidence of seasoned comedians.
The evening ended on a high note with the charismatic tales of Kura Forrester and her spot-on impressions of Contiki-style travellers.
It was a fantastic evening at Rangatira at Q, and a great chance to preview these new upcoming shows.
Full of fresh laughs, energy and talent. Next Big Things – Hosted by Ben Hurley will be in Wellington on April 28.
