This April’s production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is the first in a series of Auckland Theatre Company (ATC) productions this year featuring cast members who will be trained through ATC as part of a new programme for young actors.
Mike Hudson’s adaptation of Mark Twain’s immortal classic opens at Selwyn College Theatre from 21-27 April and we’re pleased to be able to offer a double pass* to give away to our lucky lucky readers.
The classic story is about a young, ‘free range’ boy with an unquenchable thirst for action and excitement. Over one summer in his small town, Sawyer dupes his playmates into whitewashing a fence, sneaks out of Aunt Polly’s house at night to visit a graveyard, steals his first kiss from the ravishing Becky Thatcher and, with bosom buddy Huckleberry Finn, tracks the murderous Injun Joe and his stolen gold.
In ATC’s production, Tom Sawyer will be played by Tim Earl, fresh from the most recent graduate class of Toi Whakaari – NZ Drama School. Earl grew up on a farm on the outskirts of Christchurch; a childhood filled with cows and gumboots and muddy adventures. He will appear in back-to-back ATC shows, starring next as the lead character in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.
ATC is leading the way in building the next generation of theatre makers in New Zealand.
