Montecristo Comedy Showcase 2016

So, the Montecristo Comedy venue is back for 2016 and their opening showcase pulled out all the stops with goodie bags, prizes, trumpets and of course plenty of com-eeee-deee. The line-up included local favourites and international acts.

On the night ‘The Artist’ from Jesse Griffin definitely got my attention in the ‘I must see his show stakes’ – I cried with laughter. Kade and Jeremy wowed us with actual magic and delivered it so well in such a short space of time. Tim Batt’s political aspirations and commentary on the US Presidential election teased at the fun we will have at the Vote Batt show. Matt Stellingwerf, now a two-time Billy T nominee, goes from strength to strength and should be on your list for this year’s fest. Jamaine Ross delivered some important insight into gang etiquette and Guy Montgomery impressed the audience with not only his shirt but also some pretty good jokes and fly impressions. Wilson Dixon is back for another year and he was a delight at the showcase with his performance of moral guidance ditty ‘Do the right thing’.

We’ve watched most of these comedians grow in confidence and material over the last five years and it makes you proud to see that the New Zealand comedy scene is not only alive and kicking but that our comedians are world class and deserve your attention. With so many great shows on offer it’s hard to pick so check out their full line-up on their website.
