Finding Dory is the long-awaited sequel to Pixar fan favourite Finding Nemo and don’t worry it doesn’t disappoint. This positive and heartwarming tale sees Dory overcome her disabilities, make new friends and go on the journey of a lifetime.Ellen DeGeneres returns as the amnesiac¬†Dory who retrieves some key memories from her past that sends her on a quest to reunite with her parents. Clown fish Nemo (Hayden Rolence) and his father Marlin (Albert Brooks) are back too and they’ve created a pretty sweet surrogate family with Dory in the reef. However, a field trip sparks some synapses for the little blue friend and Dory is a fish possessed to find her family home. Nemo and Marlin accompany her on her trip but when they become separated Dory really much step up and find her inner strength to succeed.

DeGeneres is wonderful as the voice of the adorable Dory and the script allows her plenty of performance breath. Her humour and tenacity bring this little blue fish to life and you just can’t help but cheer her on. Some other surprise voice talent pops up too – namely Sigourney¬†Weaver and Idris Elba – a totally treat in an already perfectly chosen cast.

The story brings excellent pace and is not lazy in its development. Many new characters are introduced bringing new friendships and many laughs as well as some emotional heartfelt moments. As expected the film looks perfect and will no doubt stand the test of time.

With themes of determination, companionship and overcoming adversity this is bound to be a winner for kids and adults alike.

A must-see feel-good underwater adventure, Finding Dory is out in NZ cinemas from 23 June.
