ARMAGEDDON EXPO 2017 is a fun and family friendly fan zone

There’s nothing better than being amongst ‘your people’ and that’s the vibe you get at ARMAGEDDON EXPO currently invading ASB Showgrounds in Auckland this Labour Weekend.

Harley Quinns, Cinderellas and Darth Vaders strut past Cornwall Park towards the long queue awaiting admission, while small babies and toddlers are all levels of adorbs in their parents choice of garms (I’m guilty of dressing my boy as Superman, BB8 and he’ll be Batman tomorrow).

Cosplay enthusiasts, gamers, comic book nerds and sci-fi fans all gather at the three and half day event that has some of the worlds top TV and Film talent and more stalls selling THOR hammers than you’ll ever need. As well as the usual geek wear and cosplay stalls there’s also posters, comics, lollies and well known brands like Mighty Ape delivering pop up stores and specials for this captive consumer.

There’s also plenty to eat with a Food Court and lots of yummy vendors outside including Mexican, Fish n’ Chips and smoothies. As a mother of a six month old, I was relived to be able to use a family room for feeding/breaks/changing and the other changing room near the man hall. It’s a good time out from the madness and a private space for breastfeeding mums.

But what we’re really hear for is the celebs and this year has the biggest line-up of celebrity guests the expo has ever hosted with stars including:

  • John Barrowman – Arrow and Doctor Who
  • Nathan Fillion – Castle
  • Tom Felton – Harry Potter
  • Holland Roden – Teen Wolf
  • Pom Klementieff – Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Osric Chau – Supernatural
  • Walter Koenig – Star Trek
  • Enver Gjokaj – Agent Carter
  • Erica Cerra and Ricky Whittle – The 100
  • Jacqueline Toboni – Grimm
  • David Blue – Stargate Universe

On Saturday we attended a few panels but one really stole the show. John Barrowman was almost too entertaining with his sometimes TMI anecdotes, crowd banter, fabulous stage outfit and full sing song finale.Fans will not be disappointed and those less familiar will feel like they’ve got a new best friend by the time they leave. If you’re only going to go to one panel this long weekend go see John on Monday at 1pm. Tomorrow we’ll be checking out Nathan Fillion and Tom Felton so keep an eye on our social media for updates.

Overall, I just can’t fault the vibe and organisation of this event. It’s a heartwarming gathering where all are welcome are excepted. So, if you’re in Auckland for a staycation or a vacation take the family to ARMAGEDDON EXPO for a day of fun, fancy dress and probably you’re fair share of shopping too.
