Top FREE games & demos on the PS4

How’s lockdown going? Looking for some more games to play on your favourite games console? Well, Sony’s offering up two free PlayStation 4 games to all PS4 owners through its new Play At Home program. These are complete games for FREE, and you don’t have to be signed up to Sony’s PlayStation Plus membership.

First up, there’s the UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection. This is a remastered collection of UnchartedUncharted 2, and Uncharted 3 for the PS4.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is one of the best PS4 remastered games. While some of the gameplay fails to stand the test of time, this is still a stellar trilogy, with stories and set-pieces that generally tend to be better than most modern games. This is the perfect game to revisit if you played it back in the day on the PS3, and newcomers should brace themselves for 30 or so hours of solid gold gameplay. Plus, there’ll soon be a motion picture of Nathan Drake’s adventures starring none other than Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland. So, until the cinemas re-open and Hollywood gets back on track, immerse yourself in these cinematic games.

Secondly, there is  Journey, a beautiful, celebrated adventure that is as moving as it is mysterious. The game’s life-affirming message is timeless, and perhaps more important now than ever before.

Journey is a beautiful game with a glorious soundtrack, with some very different gameplay. You will get swept away in its insane trippy surroundings as you plunge your feet into the warm sand. If you’re returning to Journey after playing on the PS3, a higher resolution and a higher frame rate are your ostensible rewards for returning. Journey is a very different game from what I’m used to playing on the PS4 and it’s somewhat therapeutic, which is perfect for these uncertain and somewhat stressful lockdown times. So what are you waiting for? Dive into this Grammy-nominated indie adventure.

If you aren’t in front of your PlayStation 4 at the moment, you can also get the free games via your web browser:

*Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection & Journey are free for everyone until May 5, 2020 as part of a new Play At Home initiative, encouraging people to stay inside because of the current global pandemic. Once you download them, they’re yours to keep forever.

Now, if you’re looking for a free battle royale game to play with friends on-line, look no further than Call Of Duty: Warzone.

Call of Duty: Warzone is a slickly produced, well constructed military shooter filled with thrilling moments and fraught tension. It’s scary how far we have come since the days of playing Goldeneye on the N64. Warzone is simply a brilliant and thrilling on-line shooter that you can play with friends, and strangers alike online.

Finally, a free demo that took me by surprise. Hitman 2 ‘s first level is available to play now for free on PS4. The mission sees Agent 47 as he heads to the beaches of Hawkes Bay, New Zealand! Yes, the home of Award-winning food and wine is also now home to Alma Reynard, an evil Lieutenant of the Shadow Client. Who would’ve thunk it? Take in some of New Zealand’s beautiful scenery and admire some slick architecture as you navigate the beach and home of your next hit.

Hitman 2 doesn’t change much from the structure of its predecessor but that’s not a bad thing. By offering more of the deepest, fullest stealth sandboxes in gaming, the eight chapter game earns its keep. More of the same but better than Hitman (2016). So, go have fun in Hawkes Bay taking out Alma Reynard and I don’t mean to dinner.
